Who can service your car?
You CAN use a non franchised dealer to service the car while it is still in guarantee without affecting the warranty, provided the auto-technicians use genuine parts and performs the service as specified by the manufacturers requirements. However, Aylesbury Autotech strongly advise servicing by the main agent during the warranty period, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Out of Warranty Vehicles
After the warranty has expires, there is little advantage to be gained by the franchised dealer stamp in the service log and we believe the cost benefits easily outweigh any benefits.
Block Exemption Regulations that came into effect in October 2003 mean motorists can use any garage of their choice to service their cars without invalidating the manufacturers warranty. “Independent repairers can carry out normal maintenance and repair services during a vehicles warranty period without invalidating the Vehicle Assemblers conditions provided that; the service is in accordance with the VA’s servicing schedules, is recorded as such and that the parts used are of appropriate quality and are recorded as such”.
This change to warranty requirements is still largely unknown by motorists, which means that many are paying unnecessarily high bills in the belief that they have no other choice.
Aylesbury Autotech do not suggest however that you hand over the keys of your car to just anyone. These days all vehicles require special diagnostic equipment to identify problems speedily, which requires investment. At Aylesbury Autotech, we continually invest in new tools and equipment, so that our customers get the best possible servicing for their vehicles.
